’13 Reasons Why’ hit Netflix as a new original series Friday March 31. The show is about a young girl who kills herself and leaves 13 tapes, or people who impacted her decision to take her life, behind for the chosen to listen to. The show deals with real, raw issues of depression, self-harm, LGBTQ+ themes, rape, sexual assault, alcoholism, abuse, and almost anything under the sun you can think of to happen to a person.
In ’13 Reasons Why’ there is an incredibly diverse cast that really showcase how any person can go through traumatic, difficult and sad experiences regardless of their race, gender, socioeconomic status or sexual orientation.
Actress Michele Selene Ang, who plays popular, uptight and closeted Courtney on the show, recently posted an Instagram with a shirt that reads: “Scarlett & Emma & Tilda & Matt.”
The shirt is meant to call out white celebrities who were cast to play ethnic roles, calling attention to Hollywood’s bad habit of whitewashing movies and shows instead of casting them more authentically or respectfully, as reported by Mashable.
