Spotify asks artists about their inspiration for International Women’s Day

Wednesday March 8 was International Women’s Day. Entertainment Weekly shared Spotify’s campaign asking musicians to share their female inspirations or favorite artists. Spotify tweeted the video responses from artists like Niall Horan (formerly in One Direction), Perrie Edwards from Little Mix and Zara Larsson. Horan’s inspiration? Stevie Nicks. Who knew.

Spotify also created a special playlist for the day called Musical Heroines. The platform has been pushing Women’s History month since the beginning of March with different playlists highlighting powerful women musicians.

This is a great way to celebrate the accomplishments of women in the music industry in a different way than tweeting a picture. It is so much more interactive for all users of Spotify. Personally, I always look for new playlists and new music, and by featuring these playlists they can target a much broader audience than just those who enjoy women singers.
